August 15, 2020 (Saturday):

On Thursday (13/8) 204 and on Friday (14/8) the second highest value so far with 254 new corona cases in Greece. The official figure for Crete is 91, but many tourists who have entered the country and have been accommodated in quarantine hotels are said to be counted only when they are referred to a hospital.
The total number of corona cases is 6,632, of which 2,605 are active and 22 are severe. A total of 223 deaths (plus seven).

Shortly before the loss of control, the situation of corona virus is now similar in many regions of Greece, while the occurrence of more than 1,000 cases in only five days is causing great concern.
As a further countermeasure, the government ordered the closure of bars, discos, etc. and restaurants from midnight to 7 a.m. before today’s holiday for many regions in the country, including Crete.
Maximum 50 people at public and social events, except for those for which special rules apply, such as restaurants, theatres, cinemas, etc. Obligation to use a mask at outdoor meetings where the minimum distances cannot be respected.

Travellers from Israel must present a negative corona test, which must not be older than 72 hours.

August 13, 2020 (Thursday):

Yesterday new record for corona cases: 262 plus two deaths. For Crete the official number rose by three to 88.
A total of 6,177 corona infections have now been confirmed in Greece, 2,157 of them active and 24 with severe course. A total of 216 deaths.
A new case of coronavirus was confirmed today in Rethymno. According to information, the victim is a 23-year-old woman.

According to Sotiris Tsiodras, the government’s chief scientific advisor on coronavirus, about 30% of the cases registered in recent weeks were asymptomatic, while a very large percentage are under 40 years of age. Both of these factors increase the risk, as asymptomatic young people who do not know they are infected with the virus can transmit it to others. Even though young people are less likely to become seriously ill, there is still a risk.

Italy ordered that travellers arriving from Greece, Croatia, Malta and Spain must be tested for Covid-19.

The ban on entry into Greece for citizens of non-EU countries has been extended. In addition, air travellers from Bulgaria, Romania, the United Emirates, Malta, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Spain, the Netherlands, Albania and northern Macedonia must present a negative corona test that is no more than 72 hours old.

August 12, 2020 (Wednesday):

Yesterday again 196 new cases of corona in Greece (to a total of 5,942, of which 1,924 were active and 26 with a severe course), one more death (to a total of 214).

The registered corona infections for Crete now amount to 85, a plus of 21.
This includes two cases at Aghios Nikolaos in the last two days. The first confirmed case of coronavirus in Aghios Nikolaos occurred on Monday and is a 20-year-old woman from Agionikoli who tested positive with mild symptoms. This was followed by a young man from the UK who was on holiday in the Aghios Nikolaos area.

August 11, 2020 (Tuesday):

Yesterday, Monday, 126 new corona cases (to 5,749, of which 1,732 are active and 24 are severe), as well as two more deaths (to a total of 213).

The Greek government has therefore decided on further measures:
In Crete, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, discos, etc. must close after midnight.
All concerts, events and performances where guests are not seated are cancelled nationwide.
Travellers from the Czech Republic, Sweden, Belgium, Spain and Holland must present a negative corona test on entry, which must not be older than 72 hours.
Every person entering the country via the national borders (including Greeks and persons with permanent residence in Greece) must present a corona test not older than 72 hours. Only a maximum of 750 persons per day may enter the country via the Kakavia border station on the Albanian border.

August 9, 2020 (Sunday):

Yesterday again 152 new corona cases (to a total of 5,421, of which 3,836 are active and 17 are severe). Another death to a total of 211.

Therefore, by decree of the Greek government:
Mandatory use of masks in all types of commercial enterprises, service companies, offices (public or private), churches and other places of worship, museums, theatres, etc., cinemas, libraries, elevators, all cultural events, etc. in the open air, on ships and other public meeting rooms, both indoors and outdoors !

TONIGHT THE HIGHEST CORONA INFECTION DATE IS REGISTERED: 203 (of which 29 are travelers) plus one death.

August 8, 2020 (Saturday):

124 new Corona cases on Wednesday (5.8.), 153 on Thursday (6.8 – the highest figure so far was 156 on 21. April during the lockdown) and 151 on Friday (7.8)
The total number of registered corona infections in Greece is now 5,270, of which 3,686 are active and 14 are severe. The deaths increased by one victim to 210.

A 31-year-old German tourist infected with a coronavirus, who was in a quarantine hotel until Wednesday, had to be taken to the hospital in Chania. The patient was found positive for coronavirus on arrival at Chania airport on Tuesday 28 July and has since been in the quarantine hotel in Megala Chorafia according to protocol.
Two new cases of coronavirus were discovered on Thursday in Crete. According to information from, these are two men aged 42 and 45 years from Chania, who showed mild symptoms and were admitted to the hospital in Chania.
Yesterday two new cases of coronavirus were discovered near Heraklion and especially in a village in Messara. According to, it is an elderly couple from Athens.
Several bars and hotels in Crete were checked and closed for violations of corona measures.

The smaller island of Poros was put under a local lockdown. All activities, including church services, for the Feast of the Assumption of Mary on August 15th – one of the most important holidays in Greece – will be cancelled this year for reasons of caution.
Citizens of the island state of Malta will be banned from entering Greece unless they can prove a negative virus result (PCR), which must have been carried out up to 72 hours before their arrival in Greece.
The ban on standing in bars, nightclubs, music venues and the like is extended until 31 August. All summer bazaars in the country will also be banned until further notice.

August 5, 2020 (Wednesday):

In the last three days record numbers of new corona infections in Greece: 75 on Sunday (8/2), 77 on Monday (8/3) and 121 on Tuesday (8/4).
In total now 4,855 cases in Greece, 3,272 of them active and 13 with severe course. In addition, three further deaths to a total of 209.

Today, Wednesday, another 118 confirmed corona infections and one death. The status for Crete is now 64 (+6) corona cases.

August 2, 2020 (Sunday):

Yesterday a drastic increase of new corona cases by 110 (of which 10 on Crete to now 58 in total).
In total now 4,587 corona cases in Greece, 3,007 of them active and 9 with severe course. The number of deaths remains at 206.

August 1, 2020 (Saturday):

Since Wednesday, 198 new corona cases in Greece (to a total of 4,477, of which 2,897 are active and 9 are severe), 78 of them yesterday alone. Yesterday, Friday 31 July, there were also three more deaths (to 206). This is the highest increase since the last day of the lockdown on May 4.

Therefore, from today, Saturday, August 1, 2020, an extended mask obligation will come into force in Greece. This applies to all publicly accessible, closed premises !

From today until August 15th there is also a suspension of visits to nursing homes, to groups in need of protection, homeless people, refugees and hospitals.
It is also not allowed to stay in hospital if symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection, fever, cough, pharyngitis or runny nose occur.

In addition, from Monday 3 August to 15 August, a limit of 100 people will be set for weddings, baptisms and funerals in accordance with all existing health regulations.
In addition, from Monday 3 August to Sunday 9 August, there is an express ban on permanent customers for one week in all nightclubs, bars, clubs, live music centres, bars, restaurants, cafés and bars.
In addition, the ban on festivals and other public open events is extended until 31 August.
The measures for keeping distances on beaches will be extended until 31 August, and the protective measures for private pleasure craft and professional tourist boats will be extended until 31 August.
The protection measures in KYT are also extended until 31.8. The general decision on distance rules is extended until 31 August.

The suspension of flights to and from Turkey, Albania and Northern Macedonia is extended until 15 August. Those entering by air from Bulgaria, Romania and the United Arab Emirates will have to submit a negative corona test.
In addition, the entry ban for non-European citizens is extended until 14 August.
In detail, the entry ban for non-European citizens (non-EU citizens) will be extended from Friday, 31 July, until midnight on 14 August. The following countries are excluded from this air traffic directive (Notam): Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay and United Arab Emirates.
