Greek Independence Day on March 25

Greek Independence Day, also known as Greek National Day, is celebrated annually on March 25 to commemorate the beginning of the Greek War of Independence in 1821.

This significant national holiday marks the start of the Greek War of Independence (1821-1829), which ultimately led to Greece’s liberation from four centuries of Ottoman rule and the establishment of an independent Greek state.

The day holds dual significance in Greek culture, as it not only commemorates the revolution but also coincides with the Greek Orthodox Church’s celebration of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. Throughout Greece and in Greek communities worldwide, the day is marked with patriotic parades, traditional music, dancing, and special ceremonies.
