Yesterday another record with 882 confirmed corona infections and 15 deaths.
Therefore, from tomorrow, Saturday, October 24, 2020, compulsory wearing of masks everywhere, including outside buildings, and a night-time curfew from 00:30 to 5 a.m. in several prefectures in Greece, including Heraklion in Crete.

With 865 newly confirmed corona infections a new record was set in Greece yesterday. In addition there were 6 deaths.
The average age of infected persons is 37 years nationwide. In Thessaloniki the average age is even only 28 years. On Wednesday, 331 people in the greater Attica region and 181 in Thessaloniki tested positive for the virus.
A lockdown was declared in the prefectures of Kozani and Kastoria in northern Greece. The government is now discussing further, more stringent measures such as compulsory masks on the streets and curfews.

Meanwhile, the Greek authorities presented a new online risk classification map, which assigns different levels to different parts of the country, with areas coloured green, yellow, orange or red, depending on the degree of spread of the virus in these areas and the potential for accelerated spread of the virus. This Covid map will be updated every 14 days based on the evolution of the pandemic.
Heraklion is at level 3 of this map. The new measures will come into force on Monday. According to the new data, from Monday onwards, the use of a mask outdoors will not be compulsory, as previously required by the extremely restrictive measures imposed by the prefecture, except in the event of overcrowding.
On the other hand, according to the previous announcements, gatherings of more than 9 people are prohibited and stricter conditions for the operation of restaurants will be introduced. According to the new measures the opening hours will remain until midnight at 12:00, while the customer limit per table is 4 persons. The occupancy of restaurants, cafes and bars will also decrease to 30% of the initial license of the respective store, while the distance between table seats will increase to 1.8 meters.
Meanwhile, 21,772 confirmed corona infections have been reported in Greece (622 of them in Crete), 11,352 of them active and currently 98 with severe course. A total of 431 deaths.

Yesterday, Friday, October 2, 2020, a new record with 460 confirmed corona infections in Greece. Plus five deaths.
Total now 19,346 corona infections (plus 3.4.18 since September 22nd), 564 of them in Crete (plus 99).
Currently 85 severe cases and 398 deaths (plus 46 since September 22nd).

On Monday, September 21, a new record was set in Greece with 453 confirmed corona infections. In addition, six deaths were recorded.
Yesterday, 22/9., 346 and 8 deaths were reported. On 18/9 339, on 19/9 240, on 20/9. 170 corona cases were confirmed in Greece.
The total number of confirmed infections is now 15,928, of which 5,587 were active and 77 severe. A total of 352 deaths.
A senior public prosecutor is now suggesting the arrest of people who refuse to wear a face mask in accordance with the regulations or ask others (including on the Internet) not to do so either.

With 359 confirmed corona infections yesterday (17/9), Greece just missed the previous daily record. In addition 9 deaths.
The day before (16/9) there were 312 cases. The current level for Crete is actually over 470 cases.
Restrictions of movement and even a second lockdown are possible if the virus infections in Greece continue to rise.
The concern of the local population in the areas of the municipality of Hersonissos in Crete is great due to the increased cases of coronavirus since the beginning of the tourist season. According to Creta24, the number of people with coronavirus is about 15, most of them are tourists and are in quarantine hotels.
Entry requirements for Greece until the end of September:
Travellers from Hungary are only allowed into the country with a negative Covid test, which was done 72 hours before their arrival.
The same regulation applies to all passengers from Israel, Bulgaria, Romania, United Arab Emirates, Malta, Belgium, Spain, Albania, Sweden and Northern Macedonia, who all require proof of a negative covid test to enter the country.
The Civil Aviation Authority also announced that flights between Greece and Turkey, Barcelona and Catalonia will remain suspended for the time being.
All arrivals from Northern Macedonia and Albania may only be made via the international airport Eleftherios Venizelos in Athens.
Citizens from countries outside the EU cannot enter Greece, with the exception of citizens from the following eleven countries: Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay and the United Arab Emirates

The upward trend of coronavirus cases in Crete continues. According to the updated map of the National Public Health Organization, 465 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Crete from the beginning of the pandemic to date.
Yesterday, Tuesday, September 15th, the second highest number so far, with 310 new confirmed corona infections in Greece. In addition, there were three more deaths.
Previously, on September 11, 287, on September 12, 302, on September 13, 207 and on September 12, 180 new cases.
Total number 13,730 confirmed corona infections in Greece, of which 9,613 were active and 67 severe. Total of 313 deaths so far (up 16 since 9/11).
Many will die of coronavirus in December if the measures are not followed: According to Mr. Sarigiannis, there will be an increase in ICU demand by 60 beds in October, over 100 by the end of November and an even greater increase of 300 to 400 intensive care beds by the end of December. The coronavirus deaths of 314 currently predicted by the professor can reach 350 by the end of September 460 by the end of October 600 by the end of November and 940 by the end of December.
The professor stressed that the only way to avoid confirming these nightmarish predictions is to follow the measures: ‘I think it is a sacrifice of human life that we do not want to make. It does not honor us as Greeks to sacrifice even elderly people, our mother or father, just because we refuse to wear a mask.’

Yesterday, Thursday (11/9) a new record number of confirmed corona infections in Greece: 372 and four deaths. This clearly surpassed the previous record of 293 on August 26.
Previously, 169 corona infections were confirmed on September 8 and 248 on September 9. The total number of officially confirmed corona cases in Greece is now 12,452 (including 388 in Crete), of which 8,351 are active and 49 are severe. Deaths 297 (up 8 since last Tuesday).
Meanwhile, the Dutch government has also ordered a 10-day quarantine for travelers returning from the Greek islands, retroactively from September 8.

After Scotland and Wales had put Crete on the quarantine list on September 4, the British government now follows for the whole of Great Britain: From Wednesday, September 9th, travelers from Lesbos, Tinos, Serifos, Mykonos, Crete, Santorini and Zakynthos will be placed in a two-week quarantine.
During the past week in Greece 233 (2/9), 241 (3/9), 202 (4/9), 187 (5/9), 144 (6/9) and 155 (7/9) confirmed corona infections in Greece.
Total status 11,633 (including 388 on Crete), of which 7,570 are active and 42 with severe course. A total of 289 deaths (plus 18).
For yesterday, 207 new corona infections and 5 deaths were reported in Greece.
This brings the total number of corona cases to 10,524, of which 6,449 are active and 38 are severe, and 271 deaths.
The Scottish government announces that a 14-day quarantine will be imposed on all arrivals from Greece starting Thursday, as the infection rate of Covid-19 in Greece is too high.
A new case of coronavirus is registered in Rethymnon, Crete. It is a 67-year-old man who contacted the hospital after showing mild symptoms.

The spread of the coronavirus in August during the tourist season shows an impressive dynamic. At the end of July, around 30 corona infections were still registered daily, whereas this number had increased to just under 200 daily by the end of August.
On August 24, 170; on August 25, 168; on August 26, 293; on August 27, 259; on August 28, 270; on August 29, 177; on August 30, 157; and on August 31, 183; confirmed corona infections were reported. For Crete a total of 285 cases are now reported.
Thus, Greece has exceeded a new mark with 10,317 corona cases, of which 6,247 are active and 36 are severe. The total number of deaths has increased by 34 to 266.
In the municipality of Hersonissos in Crete, there is great concern after the increased cases of coronavirus since Sunday. According to reliable information, 9 of the 11 cases are discotheque owners and a part of the employees from the surrounding area.
The Greek authorities therefore on Monday imposed emergency restrictions on the region of Heraklion, Crete, to stem the further spread of the coronavirus after the number of infections on the island had skyrocketed.
The measures announced by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection include a ban on all public events, including parties, religious festivals and street markets, while all public and private gatherings must be restricted to a maximum of nine people.
In cafés or restaurants, a maximum of four people per table (or six people if they are first-degree relatives).
Face masks are mandatory in all public areas (including on streets), whether open or closed.
The restrictions are similar to those already in place in many popular tourist areas, including Chania in Crete, as well as Chalkidiki and the islands of Mykonos, Paros, Antiparos, Zakynthos and Lesvos.
August 27, 2020 (Thursday):
And the records continue to tumble: 293 new corona cases and five deaths yesterday, Wednesday 26 August. On Monday 170 and Tuesday 168 cases.
The total number of infections for Crete is now given as 217 (plus 30 since Monday).
August 24, 2020 (Monday):
New Corona record yesterday with 284 new cases and two deaths in Greece.
On Friday (21.8.) there were 209 cases, on Saturday (22.8.) 264 cases. Total number of cases now 8,664, of which 4,618 are active and 31 are severe, and 242 deaths (plus seven since last Friday).
For Crete, 187 cases are officially reported (plus 42 since August 20). Today, another case of an employee in a luxury hotel in Elounda is reported.
August 21, 2020 (Friday):
Setting the previous daily record: yesterday, Thursday, 269 new cases of coronavirus in Greece, 11 of which are in Crete. According to the geographical distribution, four cases occurred in the prefecture of Heraklion, one in Rethymno and six in Chania.
Total number of cases was 7,934, of which 3,895 were active and 30 were severe, and 235 deaths (plus three).
August 20, 2020 (Thursday):
Yesterday, Wednesday, 217 new corona cases and 3 deaths are confirmed for Greece.
The number of confirmed corona cases for Crete has now reached 145 (plus 57).
August 19, 2020 (Wednesday):
Again a new daily record of confirmed Corona cases in Greece with 269 on Tuesday August 18th.
Previously 230 on Saturday (15/8), 217 on Sunday (16/8) and 150 on Monday (17/8).
A total of 7,472 corona cases, 3,436 of them active and 25 with severe course and 232 deaths (plus nine since 14/8).
The Union of Greek Hospital Doctors is now also complaining (see following report from 15/8) that apparently not all corona cases in tourist centres are officially announced.
