Newsflash from Monday, 3 November 2025: Greek authorities rescued 56 migrants stranded south of Kali Limenes, Crete, in a coordinated sea operation led by the Coast Guard and EFCA.

A search and rescue operation successfully saved 56 migrants stranded at sea approximately 50 nautical miles southeast of Kali Limenes, Crete, according to Greek authorities.
The operation was coordinated by the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) and involved multiple agencies, including the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) and the Hellenic Coast Guard.
The migrants were traveling in an inflatable dinghy that was spotted by an EFCA vessel flying the flag of Madeira. Upon detection, a Coast Guard patrol boat was immediately dispatched to the area to assist in the rescue effort.
All 56 individuals were brought to safety and transported to the port of Kali Limenes, where they are undergoing identification and health checks as part of standard procedures.
Authorities have not released information regarding the migrants’ nationalities or the conditions that led to their journey. However, officials emphasized that the swift coordination between agencies ensured no loss of life during the operation.
This rescue adds to a series of recent migrant arrivals in southern Crete, as the island continues to experience increased maritime migration activity across the Mediterranean.
