Museum Sunday in Greece is an opportunity to experience culture for free.

In particular, the renowned Acropolis Museum in Athens, which preserves a valuable collection of finds from the Acropolis, is open to those interested in culture.

The objects come from both the upper and lower side of the famous Athenian landmark.

Those interested can view the many facets of Greek heritage on International Museum Day, which is celebrated every year on May 18.

On this day, museums across Europe invite visitors to gain an insight into historical and cultural treasures without having to pay admission.

In Athens, visitors can discover the antiquities on display at the Acropolis Museum from 9 am to 8 pm, with the last admission at 7:30 pm.

The importance of International Museum Day

International Museum Day serves to promote museums worldwide.

Every year, precisely on May 18, the International Council of Museums initiates this day to draw attention to the cultural importance of museums.

In many countries, such as Greece, the day is characterized by free admission to numerous museums. In Greece, this day is celebrated on May 18, which allows citizens and tourists to participate in special exhibitions and the rich collections of the Greek museum landscape free of charge and to gain an insight into various areas such as history, archaeology or arts and crafts.
