Early Monday morning, Heraklion’s Nikos Kazantzakis Airport was put on high alert following an anonymous bomb threat targeting an aircraft scheduled to depart for Athens. According to airport authorities, a man contacted the airline’s central offices claiming that an explosive device had been placed on the plane.
Fortunately, the aircraft had just arrived and passengers had already disembarked when the warning was received. Although officials initially treated the call with caution, they immediately launched a thorough security protocol. Police and bomb disposal experts quickly arrived on the scene to conduct an exhaustive search of the plane and surrounding areas.
After a meticulous inspection, no suspicious items or explosives were found. Authorities confirmed the aircraft was safe, allowing airport operations to resume normally and flights to continue as scheduled.
This incident highlights the importance of swift and coordinated responses to potential threats in busy transportation hubs. The Heraklion airport team’s professionalism ensured that passenger safety remained the top priority without causing prolonged disruption.
