Newsflash from Sunday, 26 October 2025:

A shocking incident unfolded in Heraklion, Crete, on the evening of Saturday, October 25, when a group of around 50 masked individuals attacked a restaurant where former Minister and New Democracy MP Makis Voridis was dining with his family.
According to local reports, the attack occurred at a well-known restaurant in Agios Dimitrios Square. Witnesses describe a chaotic scene as the assailants hurled eggs, stones, wooden objects, and chairs toward the former minister and other diners. The restaurant sustained significant damage, and terrified patrons tried to take cover as the situation escalated.
Police forces arrived swiftly at the scene, ensuring the safe evacuation of Voridis and his family, including his 12-year-old daughter, who was present during the assault. Authorities conducted four detentions, though none of the individuals were directly linked to the attack, and they were later released.

In a statement shared on his Facebook account, Voridis condemned the incident, describing the perpetrators as “hooligans of the far left” and adding:
“I know them, and their vile tactics neither surprise nor frighten me. I have lived like this my entire life. Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go before we eradicate left-wing violence.”
A video from the scene, posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by user Antonis Kelaidonis, shows the aftermath of the attack. In the footage, one of the restaurant owners can be heard saying, “I’ll send the bill to New Democracy.”
