Newsflash from Thursday, 2 October 2025.

A flight from the United Kingdom to Egypt was forced to make an unscheduled landing at Heraklion International Airport on Wednesday evening, after a 38‑year‑old British woman caused chaos on board.
The passenger, who was traveling with her husband and child, reportedly became intoxicated and displayed aggressive behavior toward both the crew and fellow travelers. Despite efforts to calm her down, the situation escalated to the point where the pilot decided to divert the aircraft for safety reasons.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on October 1. Upon landing at Heraklion’s “Nikos Kazantzakis” Airport, police officers from the local airport unit immediately boarded the plane and arrested the woman. She now faces charges of disrupting public transport, while authorities are reviewing both her criminal and administrative responsibilities.
This is not the first time flights bound for or passing near Crete have been disrupted by unruly passengers. Greek aviation authorities have repeatedly stressed a zero‑tolerance policy for behavior that endangers passenger safety.
