A quiet village in the Municipality of Archanes-Asterousia (Heraklion) has been left shaken following a violent shooting incident targeting the property of a local resident. Authorities are currently searching for a 19-year-old suspect after a 34-year-old man reported that his home and vehicle were “riddled” with gunfire.

The Incident in Paranymfoi

The complaint was filed on Sunday afternoon by the 34-year-old victim, a resident of the village of Paranymfoi. According to his statement to the police, the attack occurred during the early hours of Sunday (between Saturday night and Sunday morning).

The victim discovered that both his house and his parked car had sustained significant damage from multiple gunshots.

Police Investigation and Search for the Suspect

Officers from the Archanes-Asterousia Police Station arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation and autopsy of the area. During the inspection, evidence of the gunfire was documented on both the residence and the vehicle.

The 34-year-old has explicitly named a 19-year-old local man as the perpetrator of the attack. While the motive appears to stem from a personal dispute between the two individuals, the suspect has not yet been located by the authorities.

Community Concerns Over Gun Violence

The incident has caused significant distress among the residents of Paranymfoi. While the police believe this was a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence, the event has reignited concerns regarding the presence and use of firearms in small Cretan communities.

The Archanes-Asterousia Police Department is continuing its investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting and to bring the 19-year-old suspect into custody.
