The weekly market.

The weekly open-air markets across the Lasithi Prefecture in eastern Crete will continue to operate as normal, ensuring residents and visitors have uninterrupted access to fresh local produce and goods.

According to an announcement by the Association of Producers and Vendors of Open-Air Markets of Lasithi, the association will not be participating in the recently announced strike. As a result, markets throughout the prefecture will remain open, with only minor scheduling adjustments due to public holidays.

Weekly Market Schedule in Lasithi

To accommodate the Epiphany public holiday, the following temporary schedule will be in place:

Monday: Sissi and Sitia (rescheduled due to the Epiphany holiday)
Tuesday: Epiphany (public holiday – no markets)
Wednesday: Agios Nikolaos
Thursday: Neapoli
Friday: Elounda and Makry Gialos
Saturday: Ierapetra

The association emphasized that these adjustments are temporary and that after the holiday period, all markets will return to their regular weekly schedule without further changes.

Supporting the Local Economy

Local producers and vendors are encouraging consumers to continue supporting the weekly markets, which play a vital role in Lasithi’s local economy and in the daily food supply of households. These markets remain a cornerstone of Cretan life, offering fresh, seasonal products directly from producers to consumers.

Whether you are a local resident or visiting the area, you can confidently plan your shopping knowing that Lasithi’s weekly markets are open and operating smoothly.
