In the wake of the shocking tragedy that unfolded in Vorizia, Crete, lifestock farmers from Heraklion, Rethmyno and Lasithi have announced the temporary suspension of their planned roadblocks and mobilizations. The decision comes as a gesture of respect toward the victims and their grieving families, following a violent incident that has deeply shaken the local community.

According to reports, the bloody confrontation in the village of Vorizia, located in the region of Messara, resulted in at least two fatalities and several injuries. The event triggered a state of high alert among local authorities and has cast a shadow of sorrow across Crete.

In their joint statement, the farmers’ representatives emphasized that now is a time for mourning, not protest. They expressed their solidarity with the affected families and the broader community, noting that tensions and emotions are running high in the area.

“We are suspending our mobilizations out of respect for the victims and their loved ones,” the statement read. “When conditions allow, we will reassess our next steps and continue our dialogue with the government in a calm and safe environment.”

The farmers had been organizing demonstrations over agricultural and economic issues in recent weeks. However, in light of the tragic events in Vorizia, they chose to pause all actions to help maintain peace and unity during this difficult time.

Authorities remain on alert in the region as investigations into the shooting continue.
