Newsflash from Monday, 2 February 2026:

Traveling between Crete’s two largest cities just got a bit more organized for the winter season. KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi S.A., in collaboration with KTEL Chania-Rethymno S.A., has officially released the updated winter schedule for the popular Heraklion – Chania Express route.
Whether you are a student heading home for the weekend or a traveler exploring the island, here is everything you need to know about the new timings.
New Schedule Effective February 6, 2026
Starting from Friday, February 6, 2026, the Express service—which offers a direct connection between the two cities without intermediate stops—will operate on a specific weekend-centric schedule to meet winter demand.
The Express buses will run on the following days and times:
* Every Friday: 09:30 – 12:30 – 15:30 – 18:30
* Every Sunday: 15:30 – 18:30
These routes are designed to provide a fast, reliable, and comfortable transit option during the quieter winter months, ensuring that passengers can move between Heraklion and Chania with maximum efficiency.
Looking Ahead: The Summer Program
While the winter schedule is currently in effect, commuters can already look forward to increased frequency in the spring.
Starting April 1, 2026, the KTEL networks will launch their Summer Program. This will see the return of four daily Express departures in both directions (Heraklion – Chania and Chania – Heraklion), catering to the increased influx of visitors and the busier spring season.
Why Choose the Express Route?
The Express service is the preferred choice for those looking to bypass the smaller villages and local stops along the North Cretan Highway (BOAK). By choosing the Express:
* Save Time: Enjoy the fastest possible road connection between the two hubs.
* Comfort: Travel in modern, air-conditioned coaches.
* Reliability: Fixed departure times help you plan your day with precision.
How to Book
Passengers are encouraged to stay updated via the official KTEL websites or by visiting the ticket offices at the central bus stations in Heraklion and Chania.
* Heraklion Station: Located near the port.
* Chania Station: Located in the city center (Kydonias St).
For more information and real-time updates, you can visit the official portals of KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi and KTEL Chania-Rethymno.
