Early this morning, the Hellenic Coast Guard in Crete responded to two separate incidents involving migrant arrivals off the island’s southern coast. According to local reports, more than 100 migrants reached Crete on October 28, with groups landing near Ierapetra and Kaloi Limenes.

In the first incident, 57 migrants — primarily from Egypt and Sudan — were rescued approximately 11 nautical miles southwest of Ierapetra. Among them were a woman and several children under the age of ten. The rescued individuals were transferred to the small indoor gymnasium of Ierapetra, where the municipality has organized temporary accommodation and meals. Medical teams examined the children and the woman at the local hospital, confirming that all are in good health.

A second group of around 60 migrants arrived later in the day at Kaloi Limenes, including six women and five children between the ages of one and six. They are expected to be transferred to Heraklion for further processing and support.

Today’s arrivals add to a series of recent landings on Crete, highlighting the island’s ongoing role as a key entry point for migrants crossing the Mediterranean. Local authorities continue to coordinate rescue operations and humanitarian assistance while calling for additional national support to manage the growing influx.
