Update 10 August: No more active fire front after a long battle
The fire has been partially brought under control, there was no active front, but vigilance continues.
The causes of the fire are being investigated by the fire brigade’s investigation department, which is looking into all possible scenarios.
17 hectares of forest and 3 hectares of agricultural land have been burnt.

Right now, a massive fire burns near Neapoli, Lasithi, and strong winds aren’t making things any easier. Firefighters from all over Crete have rushed in, hoping to get things under control before conditions worsen.
Two helicopters circle overhead, dropping water and keeping an eye on the shifting flames. Ground crews and air support are throwing everything they’ve got at this wildfire, hoping to stop it from spreading further.

Strong winds keep making firefighting efforts near Andrianos (Neapoli, Lasithi) way harder than they should be. Two helicopters fly overhead, dropping water and hoping to slow the flames.
Firefighting teams from all over Crete have jumped in to help. Sixty-five firefighters are out there, working with two specialized foot teams and 22 fire trucks.
The fire kicked off in two separate places. One area’s under control now, but the other’s still burning in some tough, hard-to-reach terrain.
