Three unruly tourists arrested at airports in Crete

Crete’s always been a magnet for tourists, drawing in crowds from all over every year.

The island’s main airports play a huge role as gateways for international travelers, connecting Europe and way beyond.

Lately, some incidents at these airports have made people pay more attention to security—especially when it comes to tourists using fake travel documents.

Local authorities have their hands full, trying to keep things running smoothly while making sure everyone’s safe.

They’ve stepped up security, leading to several arrests and quick actions to stop illegal travel attempts.

  • Crete’s airports are essential for international travel.
  • Security teams have made arrests related to travel document fraud.
  • Handling the sheer number of passengers is still a major headache for officials.

Tourist Disturbances at Crete Airports – Arrests in Heraklion and Chania

Recently, a handful of tourists stirred up trouble at Heraklion “N. Kazantzakis” and Chania “Ioannis Daskalogiannis” airports.

Police had to step in and ended up arresting several people.

Some travelers tried to board flights with forged travel documents, while others got caught up in certificate forgery schemes.

Authorities moved fast, detaining anyone who ignored airport regulations.

These disruptions messed with flights heading to places like Germany and Sweden.

Two young tourists from Germany found themselves in trouble at Heraklion’s airport. They lit up a cigarette on the runway while boarding their flight—yeah, right out in the open.

This little stunt delayed take-off by about 15 minutes. Airport staff noticed pretty quickly and called the authorities.

Police took the men to the local station for questioning. Not exactly the send-off they were hoping for, I’d guess.

Meanwhile, over at Chania airport, a 53-year-old woman from Sweden made quite an entrance. She showed up clearly intoxicated and started pestering employees of a travel company.

When police arrived, she didn’t make things easy. She resisted arrest and hurled words at the officers.

In the end, police charged her for disrupting services and resisting law enforcement. Not the best way to wrap up a vacation, honestly.
