German Tourist Dies on Beach, Son Hospitalized After Dramatic Rescue

A heartbreaking incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon, October 9, on a beach in Chania, Crete, when a German tourist lost his life while swimming. His son was rescued and rushed to the hospital, following an intense effort by beachgoers and emergency responders.

According to reports from Neakriti.gr, the tragedy occurred when the two men — a father and son visiting Crete — encountered serious difficulties while swimming. Witnesses immediately alerted authorities, and fellow swimmers rushed to help the pair back to shore. Despite their desperate efforts, the elderly father was unresponsive, and attempts to revive him on the beach were unsuccessful.

The son regained consciousness and was transported, along with his father, to the Chania General Hospital “Agios Georgios” for further medical care. Sadly, doctors confirmed the father’s death upon arrival.

68-Year-Old Swiss Woman Found Dead at Kokkiní Ámmos Beach

A tragic incident has cast a shadow over the serene shores of southern Crete. On Thursday afternoon, a 68-year-old woman of Swiss nationality was discovered lifeless in the sea at Kokkiní Ámmos Beach, near Matala in the Messara region.

According to local reports, the Port Authority of Kokkinos Pyrgos was alerted after beachgoers noticed a woman floating unconscious in the water. A Coast Guard patrol boat immediately responded, retrieving the woman and attempting to provide first aid. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.

The woman’s body was transported to the port of Kokkinos Pyrgos, where an EKAV ambulance took her to the Moires Health Center. Doctors there officially confirmed her death.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A forensic examination will be conducted by the Laboratory of Forensic Sciences and Toxicology at the University of Crete to determine the precise cause of death.
